The Walton County American Red Cross was originally chartered July 9, 1918 and re-chartered February 27, 2000. The Walton County Red Cross is a single county service delivery unit.

The Walton County Red Cross is governed by a Board of Directors. Active standing committees carry out much of the work of the Walton County Red Cross and make recommendations to the Board of Directors. Its members reflect the diversity of the Walton County community.

Over the years the Walton County Red Cross has increased its service delivery capabilities. Very active in disaster preparedness, the Walton County Red Cross SDU maintains a trained volunteer force that is always ready to respond. Six shelter sites that include schools, churches, and community centers and stand ready with trained volunteers in case of disaster situations.

Health and Safety classes are offered and have helped prepare hundreds of residents to prevent injuries and save lives. In 2006, classes were added to educate children and youth in basic first aid and response to emergencies.

In 2006 Walton County Chapter of the American Red Cross became part of East Georgia Chapter out of Athens. With this move Walton County will be supported by some twelve counties and be able to serve Walton County even better than in past years.
