1. Of every dollar given to the
American Red Cross, 90 cents goes directly to programs
and services.
2. The Red Cross is not a Federal
Agency. We are a private, non-profit organization that
receives approximately
13% of our funding from United Way.
3. Although the Red Cross is chartered
by Congress as America's leading private disaster
relief organization,
we receive NO federal budget subsidies.
4. The Red Cross is the largest
volunteer organization in the United States and the World.
At all levels,
volunteers direct Red Cross programs and services. We are truly an organization
of neighbors helping neighbors.
5. Clients never pay fees for American
Red Cross disaster assistance. All Red Cross disaster
relief is made possible
through gifts from the American people.
6. Our community has needs. The Red Cross translates donors' caring and concern for their neighbors into immediate help and relief.
7. The Walton County American Red Cross has been serving our community for 85 years.
8. The American Red Cross joins with the International Red
Cross, Red Crescent and
Red Star of David in 177 countries to provide prompt,
well co-coordinated humanitarian services to those in need around the world.
As part of this international organization, we send goods, volunteers and
expertise to relieve disaster victims wherever there is human need.
9. As part of the International Red Cross Movement, the American Red Cross is governed by the principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality.
10. While all Red Cross services meet national standards, no
two chapters are exactly the
same. The Walton County American Red Cross reflects the
needs of our community. All Red Cross units offer Disaster Services, Armed
Forces Emergency Services, Health and Safety Services, and International
Services. The chapter supports blood services. In 2003, the Walton
County American Red Cross responded to 32 single-family fires, instructed over 1,800
people
in first aid and CPR, provided 37 military families with emergency communications,
held 41 blood drives and trained 200 people to respond to disasters.
