  1. Of every dollar given to the American Red Cross, 90 cents goes                    directly to programs and services.

  2. The Red Cross is not a Federal Agency.  The Walton County Red Cross is a private, non-profit organization that receives less than half of our funding from The United Way.

  3. Although the Red Cross is chartered by Congress as America's leading private disaster relief organization, we receive NO federal budget subsidies.

  4. The Red Cross is the largest volunteer organization in the United States and the world.  At all levels, volunteers direct Red Cross programs and services.  We are truly an organization of neighbors helping neighbors.

  5. Clients never pay fees for American Red Cross disaster assistance.  All Red Cross disaster relief is made possible through gifts from the American people.

  6. The Walton County community has needs.  The Red Cross translates donors' caring and concern for their neighbors into immediate help and relief.

  7. The Walton County American Red Cross has been serving our community for over 90 years.

  8. The American Red Cross joins with the International Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Star of David in 177 countries to provide prompt, well co-coordinated, humanitarian services to those in need around the world.  As part of this international organization, we send goods, volunteers and expertise to relieve disaster victims wherever there is human need.

  9. As part of the International Red Cross Movement, the American Red Cross is governed by the principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality.

  10. While all Red Cross services meet national standards, no two chapters are exactly the same. The Walton County American Red Cross reflects the needs of our community.

    In 2007, the Walton County American Red Cross responded to 44 disaster incidents, most frequent were single family fires, for a total of 146 people receiving disaster service relief. 

    To prepare citizens for emergency response, we instructed 500 people in  safety education, including First Aid and CPR, and reached 8,457 more through special events and health fairs. 

    Disaster preparedness materials were distributed totaling 9,585 brochures.

    1,300 Walton County students were taught the “I’m Ready” course in emergency preparedness.

    The Walton County American Red Cross provided 114 military families with Armed Forces emergency communications.

    Volunteers set up 42 blood drives providing 2,003 pints of blood.

    32 new Disaster Action Team volunteers were trained for disaster response.

    23 emergency shelter agreements are in place with businesses and community partners who are ready to open in the event of emergencies.

    Our partnerships were strengthened with Department of Family and Child Services, Public Health and the Walton County EMAs.

    Walton County's Red Cross volunteers gave 9,152 hours of service back to this community, enabling us to dedicate more donor dollars to service delivery.
